Senior Pet Wellness in North Edmonton
Getting older isn't a disease, but older pets are more likely to develop health problems. Regular check-ups help them stay comfortable for longer.
What to watch for
Changes worth mentioning to us.
Small changes can be early signs. Slowing down isn't always just age.
Mobility and comfort
Stiffness, trouble with stairs or jumping, or reluctance to walk. Arthritis is common and can be managed.
Appetite, drinking and urination
Eating, drinking or urinating more or less than usual, or weight changes.
Hearing and vision
Not responding as before, bumping into things or being startled easily.
Thinking and behaviour
Confusion, restlessness at night, or changes in how your pet interacts with you.
Senior visits
Check-ups about every six months.
Many pets are considered seniors from around age 7, though this varies with size and breed. At that stage we usually recommend visits about every six months.
The goal is quality of life: finding problems early, managing pain, and helping you make good decisions.
A senior visit may include
A full physical examination
Blood and urine tests where advised
Weight and body condition checks
Pain and mobility assessment
A conversation about comfort and quality of life
Questions
Senior pet FAQs.
When is my pet a senior?
It depends on species, size and breed. Many pets are seniors from around age 7. Ask us about your pet.
Why visits every six months?
Pets age faster than people, so six months can be a long time in their health. More frequent visits help us find problems sooner.
Is slowing down just old age?
Sometimes, but it can also be pain or illness that we can treat. It's worth checking.
